Island of Brac, Croatia

Bol — Zlatni Rat

Bol is the oldest town on the coast of Brac, rich in long sandy and pebble beaches that stretch for 10 km. It is home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the Adriatic - Zlatni Rat - certainly the most beautiful beach on the Adriatic coast. The pebble beach is shaped like an animal horn, jutting out from the island for several hundred metres and sloping steeply into the sea. The pebbles are carried by the sea currents and waves. This gives the beach a different shape and slope - sometimes the "horn" is curved to the right, sometimes to the left. The promontory was formed by the removal of material from a large rocky ravine that emerges from the mountains above the promontory.

Visit in Bol some of the city's historical monuments, such as: Roman water collection mechanisms, tombstones and stelae, early Christian sarcophagi, pre-Romanesque church of St. John and Tudor, baroque and renaissance palace, bishop's residence, church of Our Lady of Mercy and get acquainted with at least a little bit of the city's history.

Bol is also probably the most famous and lively tourist center of the island with many excellent restaurants, stalls and famous ice cream.
